Disruption to roads in Sunderland as multi-million pound scheme to improve sewer network continues

Contractors working on behalf of Northumbrian Water will be moving into the Roker, Seaburn and St Peter's areas of the city from Monday.

The £8 million pound scheme which started in September aims to improve the performance and resilience of the sewer network.

Starting Monday, workers from ESH-MWH will be in Roker Baths Road. Three-way traffic lights will be placed at the juntion with Park Parade and Rober Baths Road for two weeks.

Once completed, contractors, will move along Roker Baths Road with two-way traffic lights, closing small sections of the single lane for short periods of time from February 24 until Thursday, August 31.

The final part of the works will be at the junction of Hampden Road and Forster Street. For the Airshow weekend, in July, the road will be reopened fully.

A Northumbrian Water spokesman said the company is working with their partners ESH-MWH, and Sunderland City Council to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum during the course of the work.

A community portal will be updated for customers to keep a track of the project.
