Detective pays tribute to Hendon community which helped bring David Walsh killers to justice

The 45-year-old dad-of-four was killed in Cannon Cockin Street Hendon in November last year after being repeatedly stabbed in a violent attack.

Today, Raymond Brown, 37, of Cannon Cockin Street and Charles Macguire Lamont, 40, of Villette Road, and were both sentenced to life.

Brown was sentenced to life for murder and two years to serve concurrently for violent disorder.

He will serve a minimum of 26 years.

Lamont was sentenced to life for murder and two years to serve concurrently for violent disorder.

He will serve a minimum of 13 years.

Lamont’s son Dalton James Barnett, 19, of Fuller Road, was also sentenced to six years four months for manslaughter, which he will serve in a young offenders’ facility.

Detective Sergeant Dave Hirst of Northumbria Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) said: “David Walsh was a hardworking family man and his death has left his wife and family devastated and the people of Hendon shocked.

“I would like to thank Mr Walsh’s family and the community in Hendon in helping to bring these men to justice and hope the family can now start to rebuild their lives.

“We have never been able to establish a real motive for this incident other than these men causing serious and unnecessary harm.

“The past four weeks has been a difficult time for Mr Walsh’s family as they have waited to see justice done and I believe it has been.”
