Denise Robertson: Phillip Schofield leads tributes to This Morning star

This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield has paid tribute to Denise Robertson on Twitter, as the agony aunt's death is announced.

His message, posted to more than 28,000 followers on Twitter, said: "I'm heartbroken at the passing of our @itvthismorning icon Denise Robertson. Kind, thoughtful, caring & wonderful."

Denise joined This Morning for its first broadcast in 1988, and also had her own advice website and wrote a column for Candis magazine.

The 83-year-old, who announced her cancer diagnosis in February via a statement on This Morning, lost her first husband Alex to lung cancer in 1972.

In 2006, her stepson John also died of cancer, at the age of 44.

Denise's popularity on This Morning led to her being offered her own TV show in 2000, called Dear Denise.

In 2002 she also appeared as a relationship and love expert on Dave Gorman's Important Astrology Experiment. She was also a regular fixture on Channel 5's Big Brother's Bit On The Side.
