The 36-year-old defender became Craig Hignett’s first signing as Pools boss when he joined at the start of March on a deal until the end of last season.

And the experienced towering centre-back has done enough to earn himself a new deal, which will also see him take on a coaching role with the academy.

Jones was keen to keep on playing and Hignett has revealed he is delighted to secure his services.

Hignett said: "I’m really pleased that Rob has agreed the new deal.

"He had a really positive influence on the squad when he came in last season; his experience, organisation and ability are benefits to us and he showed that both in games and in training.

"To have him around the place is a bonus for me because he’s a proper professional and the young lads in our group can learn a lot from him," Hignett told the club's website.

Stockton-born Jones, who has almost 400 professional appearances under his belt, is also set to take on a coaching role with the club’s academy to help develop the next generation of Pools players.

The former Doncaster Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday, Scunthorpe United and Grimsby defender made seven appearances for Pools in the second half of the last campaign.
