Death on Metro line leads to suspension of service

A tragedy has led the Metro service to be halted on a busy section of the train system.

Metro services were halted in the aftermath of the incident in Gateshead.

The emergency services were called to a section of the line between Felling and Heworth in Gateshead following a fatality this evening.

The Metros are not running between Gateshead Stadium and Pelaw as the fire service and police work with officers from the system at the scene.

The incident happened at around 7pm.

Passengers who had been hoping to board a train have been advised their tickets are being accepted on the 27, 57, 58, 93 buses.

Metro has said it hopes to restart the service again soon.
