David Moyes: Sunderland survival mission has fallen behind schedule

The Scot had earmarked Burnley - who haven't won an away game all season - at home as one his Sunderland side could get three points from.

But the hosts' failure to capitalise on a series of chances left them seven points off safety in the Premier League.

It will now force Moyes to recalculate his side's route to another great escape during the international break.

Moyes said: "It's not enough - it would have been down as one of the wins in my book, so now we have to turn one of the draws I had down into a win.

"The players know exactly how much it means and they know we have to win.

"We emphasised how big the game was and they didn't lose - but three points was really what we needed.

"I thought against Burnley it was always going to be difficult.

"They don't concede many goals and they have made it difficult for a lot of teams this season.

"We weren't good in the first half. We got better in the second.

"On another day we would have hoped one of the players; Billy, Fabio, Adnan, whoever, would have finished one of the chances."

Sunderland are not back in action until they travel to face Watford on April 1.
