Pennywell Comrades A stunned the Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker League leaders South Hylton A with a five-star performance.

Pennywell got off to the best possible start with Dean Taylor pinching the first frame, before Kevin Harrop defeated Adam Smith.

Joe Turner potted well to beat Graham Rutland, before an excellent final pink saw Steve O’Wellen win the fourth frame.

In the pairs, Steven Smith/Stuart Taylor beat Rutland/Norman Leslie 62-21 to complete the whitewash over the league leaders.

In a catch-up game, South Hylton A’s week didn’t get any better when they succumbed to yet another defeat, this time at the hands of Mill View.

Howard Lax got Mill View off to a good start, before a 30-break helped Adam Smith level the match.

John Spruce moved Mill View back into the lead, before Steve Chandler potted a good final black to win the fourth frame against Rutland.

A 36-break by Leslie, when paired with Rutland, won Hylton the pairs frame against John Spruce/Howard Lax 70-19 to reduce the defeat to 3-2.

Biddick B entertained second placed Boldon CA and got off to an excellent start with Paul Cobb winning the first frame against Graeme Ablett, before John Cox levelled the match.

Michael Grieveson moved Boldon into the lead winning the third frame against John Temple, before Tommy Rutter again levelled the match.

In the pairs, Philip Straughan/Peter Mills won another close frame beating Derek White/Cox 66-57 for an excellent 3-2 win.

Pennywell Comrades B travelled to Mill View and started well, thanks to Chris Hallett, but Lax levelled the match.

John Spruce moved Mill View into the lead, before Steve Chandler won the fourth frame. Spruce/Lax won the pairs frame against Andrew Doran/Eddie Dodds to complete a 4-1 win.

Lee Norton and Tommy Ayre got Steels off to a good start at home to Lumley, before Andrew Drinkwater replied.

Sean Henderson levelled the match, before teaming up with Brian Meuse to win the pairs, beating Ray Charlton Senior/Vince Flynn 64-47 for the 3-2 win.

H Congratulations goes to Glendale’s John Danby after winning the final of the Captains Cup, beating Pennywell Comrades B’s Andrew Doran 3-1.
