Cyclist found injured in Sunderland road

A cyclist has been taken to hospital with suspected head injuries after he was found in a Sunderland road.

The man, in his 30s, was found in Tunstall Road, Ashbrooke, close to St Anthony's School, shortly before 9am today.

A passer-by alerted the emergency services, with an ambulance crew taking him to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment a short time later.

A spokesman for Sunderland Royal Hospital said: "The service received a call from a passer-by at 8.50am that a cyclist was injured in Tunstall Road.

"We dispatched an ambulance crew from our base at Pallion.

"They arrived on the scene, which we graded as a red two incident, four minutes later.

"The cyclist was a male in his 30s and he was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital with suspected head injuries."
