Cut grass, end mouse issue

I read with interest the article, in Saturday night's edition, about the '˜grass cutting' (or lack of it) in the Wear View Estate/North Hylton Road area and I have to agree with the residents.

It looks a right mess. While I have some sympathy with the council and the problems caused by funding cuts made by the government, I think looking at the problems that may well arise by not cutting the grass may well cause greater expense to the taxpayer in the long term.

Namely mice and rats. While mice are much cuter than their bigger cousins, they are still a problem.

Come the colder weather they will head ‘indoors’ and, for sure, go on to create lots and lots of offspring.

A problem that I can assume will be a lot greater than the cost of cutting the grass.
