Woman arrested after man suffers 'number of stab wounds' in Seaham incident

A man has been taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds following an incident in Seaham.

Police were called to the Parkside area of Seaham in the early hours of Monday, September 14, where they found a man in his 30s suffering from a ‘number of stab wounds’.

The man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, although his injuries are not thought to be serious.

Durham Constabulary confirmed that a woman in her mid-30s was arrested nearby on suspicion of wounding with intent and remains in police custody.

A Durham Constabulary spokesman said: “Police were called shortly before 3am this morning following an incident in Parkside, Seaham.

“A man in his late 30s was found to be suffering from a number of stab wounds.

"He was transported by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, although his injuries are not thought to be serious.

The North East Ambulance spokeswoman confirmed that an air ambulance was called, but the man was taken to hospital by road with a doctor on board.

A spokeswoman added in a statement: “We were called at 3.21am on Monday to a private address in the Deneside area of Seaham.

"We dispatched one crew from our Hazard Area Response Team, a double crewed ambulance and requested support from the Great North Air Ambulance.
