Officers were at the scene shortly after 11am on Sunday, December 13 where they arrested a man and a woman who were wanted following an incident in Houghton on Friday, December 11.

Both the 30-year-old man and 26-year-old woman remain in police custody at this time.

A video of the operation has been shared to Facebook and shows a heavy police presence in the Newcastle Road Tesco car park.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Shortly after 11am today (Sunday) officers attended Tesco Express car park, Newcastle Road, Sunderland, and arrested two people who were wanted following an incident in Houghton on December 11.

“The 30-year-old man and 26-year-old woman both remain in police custody at this time.”

Details of the incident in which the two were wanted for remain unknown at this time.
