Two police officers injured in 'nasty' and 'unprovoked' attack over bank holiday weekend

Mobile phone footage is being sought by police after two officers were attacked in an unprovoked incident.

Durham Constabulary issued an appeal on Sunday, May 30 and revealed that two of its PCSOs were hurt in the assault, which happened on Saturday, May 29 at 8.20pm.

One officer was taken to hospital with head injuries, but has been released. The other sustained minor injuries in the attack, which took place on Commercial Street, Willington, County Durham.

The force confirmed that one man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting two emergency workers and criminal damage. He remains in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Lee Blakelock said: “I am thankful for several members of the public who assisted the PCSOs during this nasty incident.

“It is our belief that mobile phone footage was taken by bystanders.

"My appeal is to the individuals who possess this footage to come forward and share it with our officers.”
