Two men hurt and a third arrested in wake of 'large fight' in Sunderland street

Two men were taken to hospital with injuries and one remains under arrest tonight after a “large fight” broke out on a Sunderland estate.

A section of Purley Road in Plains Farm, near to its junction with Peebles Road, was cordoned off by Northumbria Police during today, Thursday, April 23, as inquiries got underway into the brawl.

Photographs from the scene show how officers taped off a large section of the area as investigations were carried out on the estate.

A spokesperson for the force said: “At about 3.20am this morning police received a report of a disturbance on Purley Road in Plains Farm.

“Officers attended and established there had been a large fight in the street.

“Two men were taken to hospital but they are not believed to have suffered any life-threatening injuries.

“A 28-year-old man was arrested and remains in police custody.

“Inquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to report it online at the Northumbria Police website quoting log 100 23/04/20.”

The North East Ambulance Service was also called in the wake of the incident.

A spokesperson for the service said: “We were called to a private address in the Plains Farm area of Sunderland at 3.39am today.

“We sent a double-crewed ambulance and took one patient to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment.”
