Two arrests after attack in Sunderland street leaves victim in hospital with 'serious injuries'

Two people are in police custody following an assault in Sunderland which left a man with serious injuries.

The victim, a 32-year-old man, was taken to hospital after the attack – which Northumbria Police believe happened on Pretoria Square, Plains Farm.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Sunday, March 15 at around 10.40am following reports of the incident.

Speaking on Monday, March 16 a spokeswoman for the force confirmed to the Echo that a man and a woman have been arrested.

She said: “A 33-year-old woman has been arrested for wounding with intent to commit GBH and a 29-year-old man has been arrested for grievous bodily harm. Both remain in custody.”

It is believed that the victim of the attack left Pretoria Square on Sunday and then attended an address on nearby Helvellyn Road.

He remains in hospital on Monday with serious injuries.
