Over the last few weeks, officers have been carrying out a string of raids at several addresses believed to be associated with the supply of Class A and Class B drugs in Sunderland.

On Friday, June 5, a 38-year-old man and 42-year-old woman were arrested when police executed a warrant at a house on Hastings Street.

The man and woman, who were the occupants found inside the address, were both arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled drug.

They have both since been charged with possessing amphetamine and are due to appear before magistrates in South Tyneside next month.

The raid follows a number of other successful warrants executed in the Hendon area over the last month, including on May 12 when the occupants of an address on Tower Street West received a surprise wake-up call.

A 40-year-old man has since been charged with possessing heroin and cocaine and is due to appear before magistrates in South Tyneside this month.

Sergeant Craig Sherriff, who oversaw the warrant, said: “This is the latest in a line of raids carried out in the Hendon area of Sunderland as we continue to look to disrupt drug supply which often has links to serious and organised criminality.

“This proactive approach comes off the back of intelligence gathered following discussions with members of the community who have raised some concerns about suspected drug dealing in the area.

“This is another positive outcome which has allowed us to take illicit drugs off the streets, and we will continue to detect and disrupt drug-related crimes under the banner of Operation Sentinel.
