Three arrested after ram-raids at two Sunderland shops during lockdown

Northumbria Police has made three arrests following ram-raids at branches of Spar and Sainsbury’s in Sunderland.

Alcohol was stolen in the incident at Sainsbury’s and officers later located a blue car, believed to have been used in the Sainsbury’s offence, burnt out in Ridley Street, Southwick.

Inquiries are ongoing on Monday, March 30 – but police confirmed three arrests have been made.

A force spokesman said: “A 50-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman have both been arrested on suspicion of burglary. They remain in police custody at this time.

“A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary. He has been released under investigation.”
