Theft, assault and driving while using a phone - the latest Sunderland court cases

The following cases were heard by South Northumbria Magistrates’ Court, which sits at Sunderland and South Shields:

Stuart Norman Gibson, 50, of Derby Street, Sunderland, received a community order, was fined £60 and ordered to pay £90 compensation and £85 prosecution costs after admitting assault on January 24.

Claire Michelle MacGarva, 40, of Hendon Valley Road, Sunderland, received a two-week suspended jail term and was ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge after admitting theft on August 25.

Rachael Amanda Adam, 34, of Tynedale Crescent, Penshaw, received a six-month conditional discharge and was ordered to pay a £21 victim surcharge after admitting failing to provide information about a driver on March 15 last year.

Jordan Atcheson, 26, of Westward Place, Washington, received six penalty points, was fined £162 and ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £100 costs after admitting driving without appropriate insurance on February 20.

Neil McKellar, 45, of Vicarage Close, Hetton, received six penalty points, was fined £80 and ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 costs after admitting careless driving on July 29 last year.

David Allan Stead, 35, of no fixed address, was fined £60 and ordered to pay a £34 victim surcharge and £85 costs after it was proved in his absence that he was drunk and disorderly in Sunderland on June 16.

Syed Anwar Habib, 27, of Chatsworth Street, Sunderland, was banned from driving for six months, fined £88 and ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 costs after admitting driving while using a hand-held phone on December 1 last year.
