A teenage girl has been left shaken after an unknown man approached her and asked her to get in his vehicle.

An investigation is under way following the incident which happened in the Queen Alexandra Road area of Sunderland.

Northumbria Police received a report of a man acting suspiciously and asked a teenage girl if she wanted to get in his vehicle shortly after 6pm on Friday, June 19.

Officers are appealing for anyone with information to contact police.

A force spokesperson said: “It was reported that a man approached a teenage girl and started conversation before asking if she wanted to get into his vehicle. The girl ran home and was shaken but uninjured following the incident.

“An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing to trace those involved.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact us on 101 or via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website quoting log 881 190620.”
