Teenage boy spoken to by police after hedgehog killed in attack in Seaham

Police officers in Seaham have launched an investigation after a hedgehog was attacked and killed in an incident.

Seaham and Easington Police confirmed on its official Facebook page that the team was aware of an online video which showed the animal being attacked. It later died.

Police officers have spoken to a 14-year-old boy in relation to the offence, following the circulation of a video on social media.

Inquiries into the incident are ongoing – and the policing team has warned members of the public against “hampering” its investigation through commenting on social media.

Temporary Inspector Scott Jameson, of Seaham Neighbourhood Police Team, said in a statement on Wednesday, May 13: “Please be assured that we view this as a serious matter.

“An investigation is underway, and we would ask people not to hamper our inquiries by identifying or harassing the suspect on social media.”
