Suspected driver comes forward as woman seriously injured in Sunderland hit and run

An investigation is ongoing after Northumbria Police was called to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian on Hall Farm Road at about 7.10pm on Sunday, November 1.
It was reported that the 53-year-old female pedestrian was getting into her car when she was hit by a blue Ford Focus.

Hide AdThe Ford Focus, which had already collided with a stationary vehicle on the same street moments before, then left the scene without stopping.
Emergency services attended the scene and the woman was taken to hospital with serious, potentially life-changing injuries. She is in a stable condition.
An appeal was launched on Monday, November 2 and the force says a man has since contacted police to identify himself as the driver of a car that lost its wing mirror after a picture of a wing mirror which broke off the nearside of the Ford Focus during the course of the collision was released.
Officers are now appealing for any witnesses or anyone who has dashcam footage of the area around the time of the incident is asked to come forward.

Hide AdSergeant Dave Roberts, of Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols Department, said: “The pedestrian in this case remains in hospital with serious injuries.
“Those injuries are not believed to be life-threatening but they could be life changing for this victim and she is being supported at this time.
“Our investigation is focused on tracking down the vehicle in question and identifying who was behind the wheel.
“There is no doubt that the driver would have been aware of the collision and they have left their wing mirror at the scene.

Hide Ad“If you were in the area and saw the Ford Focus, or have seen a vehicle matching the description without a wing mirror, then please call.”
Police are asking anyone with dash cams who were driving in the area last night to review their footage to see if they captured the car in the area.
