Sunderland's Fausto Coffee windows smashed by rock throwing vandals

Yobs have left the bosses of a popular Sunderland seafront cafe devastated and counting the cost after using rocks to smash its windows.

Fausto Coffee, in Marine Walk in Roker, discovered the damage this morning, Friday, June 19.

In a message shared on its Facebook page, the team said they have been staying at home after it was closed under the Government’s orders under the coronavirus lockdown and using the time to give the cafe some “special TLC" and training staff, ready for when it reopens.

The owners say they have already taken a financial hit due to the closure, with the added cost of the damage adding to its costs.

They believe the damage was caused between 8pm last night, Thursday, June 18, and 6am today with hopes CCTV in the area will help investigations.

Police are appealing for help as inquiries get underway to find the vandals responsible.

Hundreds of messages of support have been sent to the business following their post.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 8.20am today we received a report of criminal damage at Fausto Coffee, on Marine Walk, Sunderland.

“It was reported that overnight two large rocks had been thrown at the windows of the premises, which had subsequently been damaged.

“An investigation is ongoing.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact us via 101 or by using the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website quoting log 177 190620.”
