Sunderland woman caught stealing £322 worth of products from Boots

A Sunderland woman has been given a conditional discharge by a court after pleading guilty to stealing hundreds of pounds of goods from Boots.

Candice Richardson, 37, of Salem Street, in Sunderland city centre, aroused the suspicions of a security guard at the retailer’s Eldon Square branch in Newcastle, on Monday, November 11, South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court heard.

Prosecutor Paul Doney told the court she was seen on CCTV picking up a gift set and other items but failing to pay for them all at the check-out.

Mr Doney said she was followed outside and detained by staff, and police were called, with goods totalling £322 recovered.

He added: “She went to the tills and started to pay for one and left the store.”

Richardson, who pleaded guilty to theft, was handed an 18-month conditional discharge and must pay a £21 victim surcharge.
