A claw hammer was used to smash in a cash machine outside a busy Sunderland supermarket.

Now Northumbria Police detectives hope to trace a woman as they investigate the criminal damage outside Sainsbury’s in Silksworth Lane.

It happened overnight on Monday, March 27, with no money taken.

A force spokesperson said: “It is believed that a woman had approached the cash machine and smashed the screen with a claw hammer, before leaving the scene on a bicycle.

Northumbria Police hope to speak to this woman as part of inquiries into the attack of an ATM at Sainsbury's in Silksworth Lane.

“An investigation has been launched into the incident, and as part of their inquiries, officers have now released an image of a woman they would like to speak to.

“She was in the area at the time of the offence and may have information that can assist officers with the ongoing investigation.”
