Now Northumbria Police detectives hope to trace a woman as they investigate the criminal damage outside Sainsbury’s in Silksworth Lane.

It happened overnight on Monday, March 27, with no money taken.

A force spokesperson said: “It is believed that a woman had approached the cash machine and smashed the screen with a claw hammer, before leaving the scene on a bicycle.

“An investigation has been launched into the incident, and as part of their inquiries, officers have now released an image of a woman they would like to speak to.

“She was in the area at the time of the offence and may have information that can assist officers with the ongoing investigation.”
