Sunderland meat and booze thief jailed after targeting Co-op three times in 12 days

A thief has been jailed after a spate of thefts of booze and meat from the same firm in less than a fortnight.

Kevin Frederick Wood has been locked up for six weeks after a court decided that the case was “aggravated by the defendant's record of previous offending”.

Wood, 41, of no fixed address, admitted stealing £25 worth of meat from the Co-op, at Concord, Washington, on July 17 this year.

He also pleaded guilty to stealing £12 worth of alcohol from the company’s premises in the town on July 24 and to stealing another £40 worth of meat from the firm on July 29.

South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court has now jailed him for two weeks for each of the three offences after taking into account his pleas.

He was also ordered to pay £87 compensation and a £128 victim surcharge at a rate of £10 per fortnight from September 23 onwards.
