Sunderland man headbutted woman after bloodying his hands smashing toilet seat

Gary Monck, 54, of Villette Road, Hendon, Sunderland, was found with blood on his hands by friend in her toilet on Sunday, December 29.

He had deliberately smashed the seat after they rowed at her home in St Leonard Street, also Hendon, South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court was told.

But when she went to check on the noise, jobless Monck looked her in the face and headbutted her, prosecutor Lesley Burgess said.

Monck has now been ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work and undergo nine months of alcohol treatment as part of a two-year community order.

Ms Burgess said: “They have both been together in this house. She describes him kicking off and she says to him, ‘Just go to bed’. His behaviour gets worse and worse.

“He goes to the toilet and she then sees blood on his hands and sees the toilet seat has been smashed and on the other side of the room.

“She gets him out. She describes him putting his head back and headbutting her.”

Ms Burgess told the hearing Monck went outside and ended up on the ground, adding: “He begins to kick out at (the victim) while he is on the floor. The police are called.

“She certainly doesn’t want to stop seeing Mr Monck. She wants Mr Monck at her property.”

Michael Robinson, defending, said: “I have watched the body worn video which tells a different story, whereby you have police officers who can’t see much in terms of injuries.

“He is the only person the complainant can have to defend her because people use her back yard to take crack cocaine. When he is there, they don’t.

“Alcohol is the issue in this household, and it needs to be addressed for both of them.”

Monck pleaded guilty to criminal damage and assault at an earlier hearing.

He must also carry out 25 days rehabilitation work with the Probation Service and pay a £95 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
