Sunderland man denies arson attack that destroyed car

A man has appeared in court charged with arson after a car fire in Sunderland.

Kenneth Thomas Sherrington, 28, pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court on Thursday morning.

Prosecuting, Geoff Taylor, said Sherrington, of Villette Road, is alleged to have set fire to a Peugeot Allure on November 26 last year causing £6,000 damage to the car, which was destroyed.

Sherrington was bailed ahead of a trial to take place at Newcastle Crown Court on February 6 at 10am.
