Sunderland lockdown car park rave Facebook post sparks police warning

Police have warned covid rule breakers who plan to attend an illegal car park rave would face potential fines after the event was advertised on Facebook.

Ravers planning to attend an “abandoned car park rave” in Sunderland have been warned by Northumbria police that rule breakers could be fined after an event was posted on Facebook.

The event, hosted by ‘Sunderland Partypeople’ has gained attraction on Facebook with 148 people currently responding saying they’re ‘going’ and 489 people ‘interested’ in the rave.

Published on Facebook on January 3, the advert states the party would take place on Friday, January 8 and has a picture of the Sunderland Civic Centre car park on Burdon Road which remains open to the public.

The description for the event says “bring your own alcohol, no trouble and ages from 15.”

However police are reminding those planning to attend that the rave is breach of current legislation as they try to track down the organiser.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “We can confirm we are aware of this event and efforts are being made to identify the organisers.

"We would remind anyone thinking of attending that this would be a breach of current legislation and you face being issued with a fine.

"We all need to work together as a community to prevent the spread of Coronavirus and events of this nature are completely unacceptable.

"We want to thank the majority of people who are adhering to the restrictions currently in place to save lives and we would continue to ask for your support during these unprecedented times.”

Police are currently investigating the event and anyone with information they wish to report to police should call 101.
