Wayne Miller has been convicted of murder after attacking his girlfriend’s uncle twice on the same night before leaving him for dead inside his Farringdon home.
Miller, 32, left 48-year-old Andrew Mather with unsurvivable head injuries on June 2 and rang 999 the following day from a pay phone box on Sunningdale Road, claiming he was concerned for the dad-of-three, who was not answering his door.

In the 999 call Miller said: “I had a fight with him last night and I’ve knocked on the door and there’s no answer and I’m worried about him.
"He punched into me, I punched back into him and I’m just worried there’s no answer at the door.
"I just hope he hasn’t keeled over.”
When asked by the operator if Andrew was fine when he last saw him the previous day, Miller replied: “Yeah he was fine the last time I seen him.”

After a six-day trial at Newcastle Crown Court, on Wednesday, December 9, a jury found Miller guilty of murdering Andrew.
During the trial, the court heard how Miller had left Andrew’s home following the first attack, during which he took a trophy picture of his injured victim on his phone, before changing his clothes and then returning to the address later in the evening to deliver a further, fatal attack.
