Seaham man appears in court charged with causing death of Sunderland dad Richard Jordan by dangerous driving
A motorist has appeared in court charged with causing the death of a Sunderland dad-of-two.
Mark Thompson, 42, is accused of killing passenger, dad of two Richard Jordan, 33, in a smash on the southbound A19 dual carriageway at 1.45am on Sunday, August 4, 2019.
Thompson, of Seaton Crescent, Seaham, is also accused of seriously injuring Lewis Atkinson by dangerous driving in the same two-car crash.
No details of the accident were revealed during the 10-minute hearing at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.
However, magistrates were told the case was so serious it could only be dealt with at crown court.
They sent the case to be heard at Newcastle Crown Court on Thursday, June 3, and granted Thompson unconditional bail.
The collision happened three miles south of the A690 Durham Road junction.
A pre-inquest hearing into Mr Jordan’s death was opened and adjourned in March.
