Road reopened after police attend three-vehicle crash on Sunderland Highway

Sunderland Highway has fully reopened after officers were called to the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on the A1231 during morning rush hour traffic.

At around 7.10am on Friday, February 7, Northumbria Police received a report of a three-vehicle crash on the Sunderland Highway, near the A195 junction.

At around 7.30am, North East Live Traffic confirmed that officers were at the scene of the multi-vehicle incident.

In a tweet at this time, North East Live Traffic said: “The road is blocked at this location.”

Motorists experienced delays in the area as work took place to clear the scene and to make those involved safe.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Officers and emergency services attended and assisted.

“None of the occupants are believed to have sustained any major injuries.”

At around 8.45am, police confirmed to the Echo that all three vehicles involved had been recovered and the road was now fully reopen.
