Police warning notice to dog owner after reports pet is ‘out of control’

Officers have issued a community protection warning notice to a dog owner in Peterlee following reports that their pet is “out of control.”

On Thursday, February 6, Peterlee Neighbourhood Police team announced that they had issued the warning notice to the dog owner.

They took to their Facebook page to explain their decision following reports made to them.

A spokesperson posted on the page: “The dog in question when in public will now have to be on a leader and muzzled. The owner will also have to put measures in place to prevent the dog from escaping the home address.

“Failure to stick with these conditions could result in the owner being fined every time there is a breach and the dog being removed from the address.”

The public have been told that if they see the dog or owner breaching those rules, call 101 to report it and officers “will take action.”
