Police urge caution over white goods scam calls

Police in Peterlee have warned residents about a phone scam in which criminals are asking for bank details.

Durham Police say a fake company is ringing people to tell them that their white goods, such as fridges and washing machines, need to be renewed.

When challenged why they are asking for bank details, the caller claims this is new protocol due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Residents are urged to be vigilant if they receive a similar call.
