Officers have launched an investigation into the incident after receiving a report on Saturday morning (January 23) of an overnight burglary at MayHo Chinese Takeaway on Sunderland Street in Houghton.

Police have revealed that an offender had gained access to the premise, during which they stole cash from the till before making off from the scene.

The public are being urged to come forward if they have any information relating to the incident.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “On the morning of January 23 we received a report of a burglary overnight at MayHo Chinese Takeaway on Sunderland Street, Houghton-le-Spring.

“An investigation is ongoing into the break-in. Anyone with information is asked to contact us via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or by calling 101 quoting log 405 230121.”
