Police hunt driver of BMW which drove away without stopping after hitting Sunderland key worker's car

Caitlin Mcnaney, 22, who works at a Boots pharmacy, was on her way home from food shopping when her car was hit by a black BMW on Hylton Castle Road in Sunderland.
The incident took place at around 2pm on Sunday, May 3, and saw the BMW immediately driven away from the scene before Northumbria Police arrived.

Hide AdCCTV footage released by resident Jacqui Hutch Mackinder captures the dramatic incident but was unable to show the registration plate of the BMW.
Now the force has launched an investigation to find the occupants of the car.
Caitlin has been left with neck pain and possible concussion following the incident, while her car – a Ford Fiesta Zetec – has been written off .
She is now relying on partner Mark Colley, 27, to get to the Newcastle branch of pharmacy where she works on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic.

Hide AdCaitlin said: “I was on my way back from shopping at Iceland and was only five minutes away from home when a car came from my left and hit the front side of my car.
“The other car then spun round and drove away in the direction it was coming from. I was in sheer shock.
“One man helped me out of the car and made sure I was OK and then helped me move the car from the road.”
Now Caitlin and her family are hoping the public will be able to help police identify the BMW and the CCTV footage has been shared on Facebook.

Hide AdA Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 1.45pm on Sunday, May 3, we received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Hylton Castle Road, Sunderland.
“Officers attended but one of the vehicles involved - a black BMW - had already left the scene. Inquiries are ongoing to trace the occupants.
