Police investigating a suspected theft from a pensioner in Thorney Close are satisfied no crime has taken place

Officers were called to an address just off Thorndale Road in the Thorney Close area of Sunderland by the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) at around 3.45pm on Sunday, March 21.

When police attended, they found a man, said to be aged in his 80s, lying on the floor in a confused state.

The man had reported to officers that two younger males had entered the address and made off with a quantity of cash and bank cards from his wallet.

Northumbria Police launched an investigation into the incident but have now revealed on Tuesday, March 23, that the outstanding property has been located and was still in the victim’s possession.

Officers have confirmed that following a range of inquires into the incident, they are now satisfied that no crime was committed and that no burglary had occurred.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At about 3.45pm on Sunday we were contacted by the ambulance service to a report of concern for the welfare of a male at an address off Thorndale Road, Sunderland.

“Officers attended and found a man in his 80s in a confused state lying on the floor.

“It was initially reported that two younger males were believed to have stolen a quantity of cash and bank cards from his wallet.

“An investigation was launched but the outstanding property has since been located and was still in the victim’s possession.

"After carrying out a range of enquiries, officers are now satisfied that no crime was committed and no burglary occurred.”
