Northumbria Police have arrested a 36-year-old man after they were called to reports of him being in possession of a bladed article at a shop in the Harraton area of Washington.

Officers received the report of a disturbance outside of the Best One shop on Vigo Lane in the Harraton area Washington.

Northumbria Police were called to the scene at around 6.15pm on Wednesday, March 17.

It is understood that a member of the public had reported to emergency services that she saw a man outside of the shop who may have been in possession of a bladed article.

Police attended the scene and detained a 36-year-old man who was found to be in possession of Class B drugs and it was confirmed that he did not have a weapon.

Following the police search, he was placed under arrest and it is reported that the man still remains in police custody at this time as officers continue their inquiries.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “At 6.15pm we received a report of a disturbance outside the Best One shop on Vigo Lane in Harraton, Washington.

“Officers attended the scene and detained a 36-year-old man. He was not in possession of a weapon but was found to be in possession of Class B drugs.

“He was subsequently placed under arrest and remains in police custody at this time.”
