Police are appealing for witnesses after the incident in Front Street, East Boldon, where it is alleged a white van deliberately blocked the road shortly before 6.30am on Monday, March 30.
The victim claims a man then left the vehicle and began threatening him.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 6.30pm on Monday we received a report of a suspicious incident on Front Street, East Boldon.
“It was reported that a man was travelling along the road when a white van deliberately blocked its path. It’s then claimed a man got out of the van and threatened the driver.
“The occupant, who was uninjured but shaken, reversed and was able to leave the scene before contacting police.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website quoting reference 91 300320.
