Police were called to Sunderland Street, Houghton shortly after 7am today, Tuesday, December 8 after receiving a report of a house fire.
Windows have been blown out and the downstairs of the terraced house has been burnt and damaged in the suspected arson attack.

Hide AdThere have been no injuries recorded at the incident and emergency services extinguished the fire earlier this morning.
A Tyne and Wear Fire Brigade spokeswoman said: “Two crews went to the scene at 6.58am and left at 7.19am after extinguishing the fire.
"The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
The early-morning blaze is being treated as a suspected arson attack police have confirmed.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 7am today (Tuesday) we received a report of a house fire on Sunderland Street, Houghton.

Hide Ad“Emergency services attended and the blaze was extinguished. Thankfully nobody was injured.
“Enquiries are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, which officers are currently treating as suspected arson.
