One person required treatment after a collision involving a police car and a van close to the Northern Spire bridge.

A passing ambulance crew stopped to assist at the crash scene at the junction of the bridge with the A1231 Wessington Way and Castletown Way today, Thursday, April 29.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called just after 10.15am by one of our ambulance crews who had stopped to help at the scene of a road traffic collision close to the junction of the A1231 and the Northern Spire.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson confirmed a police car was involved: “At 10.10am today, we received a report of a two-vehicle collision involving a police car near the Northern Spire Bridge, Sunderland.

“Thankfully nobody is believed to be seriously injured. Any witnesses to the collision can contact us by calling 101 quoting reference 235 290421.”

The road is now clear.
