Four men have been charged with a number of offences including violent disorder, arson with intent to endanger life and possessing an offensive weapon following a mass brawl in Sunderland.

A police investigation was launched following a disturbance in Sunderland’s Ridley Street on Sunday evening (April 5).

Now four Sunderland men are due to appear at court charged with a number of offences relating to the disturbance.

Luke Owen, 33, of Beatty Avenue, Town End Farm, Sunderland, and Shaun Nathan McGregor, 31, of Beechwood Crescent, Marley Pots, Sunderland, have each been charged with violent disorder.

David George Clark, 35, of Gordon Terrace, Sunderland, has been charged with violent disorder, dangerous driving, arson with intent to endanger life and possession of an offensive weapon.

Leigh Coulson, 31 of Gordon Terrace, Sunderland, has been charged with violent disorder and arson with intent to endanger life.

The four men charged are due to appear before South Tyneside Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, April 8.

A fifth man, Craig Isherwood, 35, of Rochdale Way, Red House, Sunderland, has been charged with assault of an emergency worker and assault of a PC.

Isherwood appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, April 7, and has been bailed until June 8.

He remains under investigation in relation to the disorder on Ridley Street but he has not been charged with any offences relating to the disorder.

Northumbria Police says inquiries into the incidents themselves are ongoing and police are still trying to identify all of those involved.

Anyone with information about the initial disturbance, or the subsequent car fires, is asked to call police on 101 quoting log 909 05/04/20.
