Man slashed in the face in Sunderland city centre attack

A man has been taken to hospital with a slash wound to his face following an attack near The Bridges Shopping Centre in Sunderland.

Emergency services were first called to the scene of a disturbance shortly before 1.20pm on Monday, April 6.

A 52-year-old man was arrested and has since been charged with assault and for possession of a pointed article following the incident.

The 36-year-old victim was taken to hospital after suffering a slash wound to his face in the attack.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Yesterday at 1.18 pm we received a report of a disturbance near the Bridges Shopping Centre in Sunderland.

“Following the disturbance, a 36-year-old man was taken to hospital to receive treatment for a facial injury.

“And a 52-year-old male was arrested and has been charged with assault and for possession of a pointed article.”
