A man left two girlfriends injured and traumatised in sickening attacks then sent them "ugly" messages saying they were to blame.

Shaun Robinson lashed out and left the victims bruised and scared in two separate, shocking assaults then told them they were "brayed" and "battered" due to their own behaviour.

At Newcastle Crown Court Judge Amanda Rippon said Robinson's contact with the women after the violent attacks was "gaslighting" and added: "I have rarely read anything quite so ugly."

Railway worker Robinson, 23, of Striding Edge, Washington, admitted two assault charges, has been jailed for 34 months and given restraining orders to keep him away from both women.

Judge Rippon told him: "The custodial threshold is charged past, no question."

The court heard during the first attack, in August 2022, Robinson punched, kicked and stamped on his victim, grabbed her by the hair and smashed an empty wine glass over her head.

He left her with two "nasty" black eyes, bruising across her body and limbs and with hair missing.

Robinson then sent her a vile message saying: "You are the ****ing problem, stop trying to say I am. You got what you deserved. Learn to ****ing respect people and you wouldn't get brayed, you fat ****ing mess."

Robinson later boasted when questioned: "I took my ring off and didn't stamp on her face, just went boosh, boosh, boosh".

The court heard Robinson then formed a relationship with another woman, who he repeatedly punched in the face during a "frenzied" attack, in which he used both hands to inflict maximum injury.

Robinson chillingly told the woman during the violence "I don't know whether to kill you or not" and left her black-eyed and bruised.

He then told her in a message: "You have been cheeky as **** with me, this is why I battered you."

The first victim said in an impact statement she feared going back to her home where the attack happened as it was "covered in glass and blood" and added she was "traumatised".

The second woman said she genuinely believed Robinson was capable of killing her and added: "I was in fear for my life.

"I'm worried he will try and hurt me for reporting him to the police."

The court heard Robinson has a previous conviction for battery on another ex partner in 2018.

Jonathan Cousins, defending, said Robinson works in track maintenance on the railways.

Mr Cousins added: "This is a man for whom his relatively young age and lack of maturity is potentially a mitigating feature.

"In interview with the probation service he did show some remorse."
