Man found stabbed in Durham City Centre street

Durham Constabulary said the incident was reported to officers at 8.30am today, Thursday, March 19, with a section of North Road Road in Durham and its bus station closed off to people and vehicles in its wake.
The suspected attack is said to have happened in Mitchell Street, a short walk from the station, with that terrace, which is off New Street, also closed off today.

Hide AdTraffic has also been diverted from the A690 between the roundabout at North Road and the junction with Sutton Street.
A heavy police presence remains in the area, with forensic officers from the force’s crime scene investigation unit wearing white suits have been spotted on the scene.
A spokesperson for the police said: “We were called at 8.30am today following reports that a man had been found in Mitchell Street, in Durham, with a stab wound.
“Paramedics and the Great North Air Ambulance are also in attendance at the scene.

Hide Ad“The bus station has been closed and members of the public are asked to avoid the area while emergency services work at the scene.”
The North East Ambulance Service said it was called to a report a person had been injured in Mitchell Street at 8.21am.
It sent a two double-crewed ambulances, a Hazardous Area Response Team (Hart), a rapid response paramedic and a specialist paramedic, with the Great North Air Ambulance requested, but not needed.
Durham County Council, which runs the bus station, said services are still operating, but are being diverted down North Road.

Hide AdDave Wafer, its strategic traffic manager, said: “There is an ongoing police incident near Durham Bus Station as a result of which the station, North Road and bus stops on Milburngate have been closed until further notice.
“People wishing to travel can catch the bus within the city centre or on Sutton Street under the viaduct.
“Tickets can be bought on board. We will provide further information when we can.”
