Man dies after collision with bus on Sunderland street

A man has died after a collision in Sunderland.

Police are appealing for information after the incident in the city centre this evening, Friday May 21.

At about 7.35pm, officers received a report that a male pedestrian had been hit by a bus on Leechmere View, near Lynthorpe, in Hollycarrside.

Emergency services attended but sadly the 64-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nobody on the bus was injured.

Specialist officers from Northumbria Police are supporting them at this difficult time while an investigation is conducted by the Force’s Motor Patrols Department.

Enquiries into the circumstances around the collision are ongoing and officers are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

In particular police are looking to speak to any motorists who were in the area at the time of the collision who have dash-cam footage of the incident.
