Man charged with murder following investigation into the death of Christopher Ritchie

Detectives investigating the death of Christopher Ritchie have charged a man with murder.

Jonathon Morgan, 26, of Allergate, Durham, has been charged with murder and remanded in custody. He will appear in court on Monday morning (March 23).

Mr Ritchie died after he was stabbed in Mitchell Street, just before 8.30am on Thursday, March 19.

A post-mortem examination confirmed the 41-year-old died as a result of stab wounds.

Last week, his heartbroken mother Jean paid tribute to him, saying: “Our hearts are completely broken. Life will never be the same again.

“Christopher was kind-hearted and generous. He would do anything for anyone and would never hurt anyone.

“He was a loving son, brother and dad and we all love him to bits.”
