A man has been arrested after a car rammed into an ice cream van at a Seaham car park.

A video circulating on social media shows a car reversing and slamming into one of three ice cream vans parked at Vane Tempest car park, in Seaham, on Sunday, May 9.

Durham Constabulary has confirmed that a 29-year-old man was arrested in Sunderland in connection with the incident a short time later.

The man has since been released under investigation while inquiries into the incident continue.

A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said: “Police were called on Sunday, May 9 to reports of a car ramming an ice cream van in Vane Tempest car park, in Seaham.

“The car drove off after the incident, which happened at around 1.25pm.

“A 29-year-old man was arrested in Sunderland in connection with the incident a short time later. He was interviewed by officers and has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.”
