A man has been arrested after armed police were called to a ‘domestic incident’ in a County Durham village.

Armed officers were called to a property in the village of Leamside at around 8pm on Tuesday, July 13 following reports of a 'domestic incident.’

A 58-year old man was arrested and remains in police custody.

Durham Constabulary have confirmed that they are carrying out inquiries.

A spokeswoman for the force said: “Police were called to reports of a domestic incident in the village of Leamside, shortly after 8pm, on Tuesday, July 13.

“Armed officers attended the scene.

"A 58-year-old man has been arrested and is currently in police custody.

“Inquiries are ongoing.”
