Man, 21, 'seriously injured' after crash on A690 in early hours of the morning

A man has suffered serious injuries following a crash in the early hours of the morning.
The crash took place on the A690 Eastbound, between Gilesgate roundabout and Belmont junction.

Police were called to a crash between a Vauxhall Antara car and a pedestrian on the A690 Eastbound, between Gilesgate roundabout and Belmont junction, at about 2.25am.

The 21-year-old pedestrian suffered serious head and leg injuries and was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle, for treatment.

The 40-year-old driver of the Vauxhall Antara was uninjured.

The road was closed for several hours but has now been reopened.

Durham Constabulary inquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the force on 101.

A Durham Constabulary spokeswoman said: “We received calls of a collision involving one vehicle and a pedestrian on the A690 Eastbound, between Gilesgate roundabout and Belmont junction, at about 2.25am.
