Investigation continues after man dies from serious injuries in Penshaw

Investigations are continuing after after a man died in hospital after suffering serious injuries in the early hours of the morning on Saturday, May 16.

Police officers arrested three men aged 47, 38 and 36, in connection with the incident.

A large police cordon was in place on Avondale Avenue, in Penshaw, as a police investigation into the man’s death was launched.

A forensic team was also at another address in the area. Officers confirmed the presence of police and the forensics team was in connection with the death of the 55-year-old.

Northumbria Police said this morning there were no further updates in respect of the investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Sharon Chatterton said on Saturday: “A team of experienced detectives are carrying out an investigation into this incident as we look to ensure anyone responsible is brought to justice.

“Specialist officers are currently supporting the family and we would ask that their privacy be respected at this time.

"We believe those involved were known to each other. Officers will remain in the area to carry out enquiries and offer any reassurance to the public.”

Officers are now appealing for anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the incident, to get in touch.
