From stray to new recruit - meet Chief the latest addition to Durham Constabulary
Abandoned German Shepherd and Malinois cross puppy Chief is on his way to becoming a fully fledged member of Durham Constabulary after being adopted from an animal charity.
The playful puppy has been named after being spotted and rescued by Durham Constabulary's top detective.

A police spokesperson said: “During a meeting with the rescue charity our Chief Inspector spotted him and something about this little lad stood out.
“After a quick enquiry, our Dog Support Unit gave him an assessment to see if he had the makings of a working dog.
“We’re delighted to say he passed his first tests with flying colours. When it came to choosing a name, the team didn’t have to think too hard. In recognition of the Chief Inspector who gave him this second chance, they named him Chief.
“Chief is now settled in with one of our experienced handlers, starting lots of environmental training, building his confidence, and learning brand new skills every day. From stray pup to squad recruit, not bad for 18 weeks old.”
